September 9, 2006.  We headed off with 10 bikes and 15 people in search of waterfalls, BBQ, tunnels, ice cream, and twisties.  It turned into a 270 mile trip into 3 states.

Starting the day at 8 am at Krispy Kream donut place in Buford.  Fresh hot donuts.

Our first stop an hour later in Toccoa.

Issaqueena Falls in South Carolina.  Typical waterfall's history - Indian girl falls in love with white guy - tribe disapproves so she jumps off falls to kill herself.  Except this time she hides about half way down under the falls.  The tribe assumes she is dead.  Her and white guy live happily ever after.  The End.

From the top looking down.

A bridge on the path to the falls.  This is the creek feeding it.

10 bikes scattered all over the dirt parking lot.

The entrance to Stumphouse Tunnel.  Some group of idiots in 1850 decided they were going to bore a tunnel thru solid rock from South Carolina to up north somewhere.  After a few years they made it 1/4 mile into the mountain before somebody figured this was a bad idea.  Then for a few years someone used it to cure blue cheese since it is humid and cool.  It is wet too, water drips on you as you walk thru it.

Here we are a ways into it looking back at where we came in.  We brought a flashlight but it was still real dark in there.

Here is one of the railroad cars that would have made the journey thru the mountain if they would have finished.

Getting ready to leave the tunnel parking lot.

Then up to Cashiers, NC for BBQ

The 'rustic' atmosphere.

Then it was off to Highlands, NC and Sweetreats for ice cream.

The stream along side the ice cream place.  Huge trout down there.

Another break about an hour later after coming thru the NC mountains.  Fantastic roads!

Stopping for maters and corn.  Then one more gas stop and home at 6 pm.  A long but great day.
